1. Placenta is extremely essential for foetal development. Give reason.

Ans: 

1. The developing embryo gets nutrition from the mother's blood with the help of placenta.

2. Placenta contains villi on the embryo's side of the tissues and blood spaces on the mother's side surround the villi provide a large surface area that facilitates passages of nutrition and oxygen to embryo from mother through blood.

3. Waste substances produced by embryo are removed through placenta into mother's blood.


2. Uterine lining becomes thick and spongy after fertilization. give reason.

Ans: Every month one egg is released by the ovary and uterus prepares itself to receives a fertilized egg. As a result, the lining of the uterus becomes thick and spongy. This is required for nourishing and embryo after fertilization.


3. Name the reproductive and non reproductive parts of the bread mould.

Ans: 1. Reproductive part: Sporangia (knob like structure)

         2. Non reproductive part : Hyphae


4. List any two advantages of vegetative propagation.

Ans: Advantages of vegetative propagation:

1. Offspring are genetically identically and therefore useful traits can be preserved.

2. Seedless varieties can be obtained.

3. It is a rapid and economical method.



5. Name the reproductive parts of an angiosperms. Where are these parts located? Explain the structure of its male reproductive parts.


Ans: The STAMEN and PISTIL are the reproductive parts of an angiosperm.

They are located in the flowers.

Stamen is the male reproductive part of the flower.

A stamen consists of anther and filament.

(i) Anther: Anther is a sac-like structure that produces pollen grains.

(ii) Filament: Filament is a thin stalk-like structure that supports anther.



6. What is Lymphatic System?

Ans :  Lymph:

  1. Lymph is a colorless fluid containing specialized lymphocytes responsible for the body's immune responses.
  2. Lymph also transports nutrition, hormones, and other substances.
  3. In the lacteals of the intestinal villi, fats are absorbed by lymph.

Lymphatic system:

  1. A vast network of lymphatic vessels, lymph nodes, lymphatic or lymphoid organs, and lymphoid tissues make up the lymphatic system.
  2. One of its main functions is to collect excess lymph fluid from human tissues and return it to the bloodstream.
  3. The other main function is that of immune defense
