5.2.2 Cell Wall – Notes

Key Points:

Location:

Lies outside the plasma membrane in plant cells.

Composition:

Mainly made of cellulose (a complex carbohydrate).

Function of Cellulose:

Provides structural strength and rigidity to the plant cell.

---

Plasmolysis:

When a living plant cell loses water through osmosis, the contents of the cell shrink or contract away from the cell wall.

This process is known as plasmolysis.

It occurs due to the loss of water from the cytoplasm and vacuole.

---

Observation:

Plasmolysis can be observed through simple laboratory activity (mentioned in the next part of the text).

Let me know if you want a Hindi
