redox reaction

a redox reaction can be understood as follows:

  • Oxidation:

    • Addition of oxygen to a substance.
    • Removal of hydrogen from a substance.
  • Reduction:

    • Removal of oxygen from a substance.
    • Addition of hydrogen to a substance.

Examples Based on This Concept

  1. Oxidation of Carbon to Carbon Dioxide

   C + O2 -------> CO2
  1. Reduction of Copper Oxide

   CuO + H2 --------->Cu + H2O
  • H₂ gains oxygen and gets oxidized to H₂O.
  1. Oxidation of Hydrogen Sulfide

   H2S + Cl2 -------> S + 2HCl
  • Cl₂ gains hydrogen and gets reduced to HCl.

Let me know if you need more examples or explanations!
